How to complete this task in the full guide in 2023?

Training: 12 questions (free)

Examination: 20 questions ($0.07, conditional on passing grade)

Pool: $0.2+/page

Overview:

In this task, you will see two product listings with titles and product images. The PRODUCT is a product that a user has bookmarked, for which we would like to show them advertising. The RECOMMENDED PRODUCT shows a product we might suggest to the user. The goal of this task is to classify these recommendations into one of the following categories based on how closely the RECOMMENDED PRODUCT matches the PRODUCT:

  1. Same: the RECOMMENDED PRODUCT offers the exact same product as the PRODUCT, which means EVERY attribute matches
  2. Highly Substitutable: product types are equal AND all the key/special attributes match (for example, target audience and brand)
  3. Substitutable: a replacement, substitute, or alternative, i.e. product types are equal and ONE OR SOME of the non-essential attributes mismatch (for example, brand, format, material...)
  4. Complementary: product types are different, but users shopping for the PRODUCT would very likely have a need or an interest in the RECOMMENDED PRODUCT
  5. Unrelated: users shopping for the PRODUCT would have no obvious reason to NEED or be INTERESTED in the RECOMMENDED product
  6. Cannot Judge: access denied to page / no product or multiple products / 404 error or page does not exist / other reasons

ATTENTION: Please read the following step-by-step instructions before beginning the task!!

Step1: Check for errors in the web pages

1.      Access the PRODUCT and RECOMMENDED PRODUCT pages by clicking the corresponding View button. Choose CANNOT JUDGE if:

  1. You are not granted access to the page because of your region or other reason
  2. There is no error, but you cannot distinguish the product offered because: a) there is no product, or b) there are multiple products equally outstanding
  3. There is an error message on the screen that prevents the page from loading or a blank page

Step2: Check if product types are not equal

Products of the same type share function and usability. Examples of different product types: bags, sweaters, cars, guitars, boots, sneakers, sandals, etc.

  1. If RECOMMENDED PRODUCT type is a different product type than the PRODUCT type, BUT they can be used together and some users shopping for the PRODUCT would be interested in the RECOMMENDED PRODUCT, then choose COMPLEMENT.
  2. If RECOMMENDED PRODUCT type is a different product type than the PRODUCT type AND based on a USER's interest in the PRODUCT, they would have no obvious reason to NEED or be INTERESTED in the RECOMMENDED product, then choose UNRELATED

Step3.Check for product attribute mismatches:

  1. If RECOMMENDED PRODUCT type is the same as PRODUCT type BUT at least one key attribute differs (men vs women, boys vs men), choose UNRELATED
  2. If RECOMMENDED PRODUCT type is the same as the PRODUCT type BUT the products would be used in different settings (formal vs informal wear, cotton vs woolen clothing), choose UNRELATED.
  3. If the products are in different formats (paperback, hardcover, e-book), or in different materials and their brand doesn't match, choose SUBSTITUTABLE
  4. Products in different sizes can be SUBSTITUTABLE only if the user intent is achieved. For example, a 12’ by 12’ rug is not very similar to a 4’ by 4’ rug, but they both serve the same basic function and are substitutable.

Step4. Check for product matches:

  1. If the same products have a difference in size BUT the brand and target audience matches, choose HIGHLY SUBSTITUTABLE. For example, a women’s large vs a women’s small in the same product
  2. If you cannot verify one specific attribute AND there are no conflicting attributes AND the products are very similar based on the available information – you should label it as HIGHLY SUBSTITUTABLE
  3. IMPORTANT! Other attributes like color or model number may differ, BUT if they differ on brand OR you cannot VERIFY brand, they CANNOT BE HIGHLY SUBSTITUTABLE.
  4. IMPORTANT! If there is a very significant difference, SUBSTITUTABLE might be more appropriate.
  5. Finally, if the two displayed products are identical, which means that the RECOMMENDED PRODUCT matches every attribute of the PRODUCT, choose SAME (ignore “New” or ”Used” attributes; if the PRODUCTs are still identical choose SAME)
